about

Social media is the perfect tool to run alongside your business, from brand promotion to customer care, the benefits of being online are endless.

However, remember it is just as detrimental to have a 'bad' social presence as it is to not have any presence at all. So how do we make sure our social presence is 'good'? Here are a few questions we should be asking ourselves...

If your business were a person, what would they be like?
It may sound like a silly question but it's actually really important when it comes to finding our social voice. If your brand were a person, what would they sound like? Who would they network and socialise with? This will help give your business a personality and make knowing what to say online (and how to say it) easier.

What are you talking about?
When we post things online we want to be seen as interesting and worthwhile to follow. So it is important to know what we're putting out there. Think about what your audience wants to hear as well as what you want them to know. You don't want to be filling up their news feeds with irrelevant content. Instead you want to produce content that is valuable and something that they are likely to be interested in.

Who do you follow?
The one thing we must always remember is that it is 'quality over quantity'. It may look good on face value to have thousands of followers but what is the point of having any of them if they're not engaging with you? Not only do you want to keep track of who is following you, you also want to carefully manage who you follow. Just like how you want to make sure that you are feeding out relevant content, you also want to be receiving quality content yourself. Make sure those you follow are of value to you. Think about following others in your industry, thought leaders and anyone else who can provide you with relevant news.

So whether you're just starting up on social or trying to give your brand a face lift, keep these questions in mind to ensure that your social presence is doing the right thing for your business.
