Excel: Handling Data

(9 reviews)

by Alan Murray

Part of a series on 2024 Excel. This short course looks at improvements to how we import and handle data in Excel, making use of new data conversion settings and explaining how data can be linked and connected.

This module will enable you to

  • Customise automatic data conversion settings
  • Understand the updates to the new workbook links experience
  • Insert data from Power BI into Excel as a connected table
  • Import data from the web with the new and improved web connector

About the module

In Excel, we often find ourselves getting data from an external source - linking to another file, importing data, or simply copy and pasting.

With the latest update, new data conversion options cover how to handle the infamous leading zero issue, and some changes to the way workbooks and spreadsheets are linked. There is also improved connectivity to import data from the web and from Power BI.

This was a good introduction for a person who doesn't directly deal in this area. Disagreed with some of the quiz answers though! especially about employees using personal computers for work purposes

I'd like some explanation for the answers given. I don't understand why there are not dp security reasons if staff are allowed to bring their own devices to work. I would have thought putting personal data on your own devices is a risk. As is having paper copies that can be copied to work on at home and can be left on the train.

Interesting course, I think some overlap between this course and the cyber security risk management course but has encouraged me to review my own and clients data protection policies.
